The Ten Commndments - Exodus 19-20:17
(Children's Version)
The Israelites came to a great mountain called Sinai. And the Lord said to Moses, "Go tell the people to wash themselves and be ready, for I will come down on the mountain to speak to the," On the morning of the third day, thunder and lightening shook the mountain, and a thick could covered it.
The Lord decended on the mountain and spoke to all the people the words of the Ten Commandments:
1. You shall have no other gods before me.
This means that we must love God more than anything else.
2. You shall not make any graven image, or bow down to it, nor worship it.
Carved images made from gold, silver, wood, or stone cannot save anyone.
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
God's name is sacred, so use it reverently when talking with God or man.
4. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.
Think of God, do good unto others, and rest from all unnecessary work.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
Obey your parents out of a heart of love.
6. You shall not kill.
Do not destroy people, because men and women, and boys and girls are made in God's image.
7. You shall not commit adultry.
A man is not to leave his wife and live with another woman, neither is a woman to leave her husband and live with another man. Keep yourself pure.
8. You shall not steal.
If you have stolen anything, give it back or pay for it.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Never speak a lie, but speak only the truth.
10. You shall not covet anything that is your neighbor's.
We are not to wish for or strongly desire that which belongs to another.
